Israeli prosecutors have formally charged six settlers for attacking villages and a mosque in the occupied West Bank. According to police, the suspects, accused of terrorism, arson, sabotage, and violent rioting, targeted Deir Dibwan village on June 14. Investigations found that masked settlers entered the area carrying flammable materials, tear gas, and knives, setting trees and vehicles on fire, damaging a mosque, and assaulting residents. Witnesses told Al Jazeera that the mosque was set ablaze while worshippers were inside.
The Times of Israel reported that five of the accused are minors and one is 18 years old. They face charges of racially motivated assault, rioting, arson under terrorist circumstances, and property damage in the Jerusalem District Court. The UN noted that settler attacks in 2026 have surged to an average of six per day. Despite the indictments, new assaults occurred across the West Bank, including attacks on homes, vehicles, and farmland.
Western nations including Australia, Canada, France, Norway, New Zealand, and the UK have imposed coordinated sanctions on networks funding or inciting settler violence. Israeli officials and settler leaders dismissed the sanctions as symbolic and ineffective.
