In the recently concluded 13th National Parliamentary Election, four candidates in the Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj) constituency lost their security deposits, while only the BNP and Jamaat candidates retained theirs. According to the Election Commission’s circular, any candidate failing to secure one-eighth of the total valid votes in a constituency forfeits their deposit. The affected candidates were Kazi Moshiur Rahman of the Jatiya Party, who received 2,360 votes; independent candidate Advocate Abdur Rouf Akand, who received 1,552 votes; Syed Touhidul Islam Tuhin of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, who received 1,373 votes; and Atowarul Islam Nannu of the Revolutionary Workers Party, who received 368 votes.
The Gaibandha-4 constituency, comprising one municipality and 17 unions, had a total of 468,374 registered voters. Of these, 292,596 votes were cast, with 285,505 valid and 7,091 invalid ballots, resulting in a voter turnout of 62.94 percent. The results showed that apart from the two leading candidates, others failed to achieve significant voter support, leading to the forfeiture of their deposits.
