New Political Party to Launch This Month – Top Leadership Almost Finalized

A new political party, initiated by the National Citizens’ Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, is set to launch this month. Nahid Islam, leader of a mass uprising, is expected to be the Convenor, while Akhtar Hossain is likely to be the Member Secretary. Other key positions include Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah as Chief Organizer and Spokesperson. A launch event is planned for February 26 in Dhaka. Nahid Islam may resign from his advisory role soon to take up party leadership.

Compromise at the Top Positions of New Party, Name to Be Announced Soon

The name of the new party formed from the anti-discrimination student movement will be announced later this month. Nahid Islam, the adviser to the interim government, has been finalized as the convener. Names of a few leaders from the National Citizen Committee and the forefront of the anti-discrimination student movement are being discussed for the other positions. However, the party name has not been finalized yet. Before the announcement, Nahid will resign from the government.

Sources indicate that the party, initiated by the National Citizens’ Committee and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, is introducing two new leadership roles based on mutual agreement. In addition to Convenor, Member Secretary, Spokesperson, and Chief Organizer, the party will also have a Senior Joint Convenor and Senior Joint Member Secretary.
