The house of Awami League leader and former chairman Billal Hossain in Basantapur, Azimnagar Union, Manikganj, was vandalized and set on fire on Tuesday. Several individuals, including a BNP leader, were injured while attempting to extinguish the fire. Witnesses allege that Abdur Rahman, General Secretary of the local Jamaat-e-Islami, led the attack on Billal Hossain’s house. When BNP activists and neighbors tried to douse the flames, they were attacked with sharp weapons, including machetes and axes. One of the injured, Nur Hafez, stated that had they not intervened, more homes would have been destroyed. Rahman claimed that he and his associates had been threatened the night before the attack.
