Former Israeli ambassador Alon Pinkas said Israel remains dissatisfied with a proposed US-mediated agreement under which Hamas would disarm and dissolve. The report, published on August 2, said Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip intensified during the 48 hours after the agreement was announced. Pinkas said no effective arrangement had yet been established despite discussion of a deal.

The report said Israel formally objected to the peace process launched at the initiative of US President Donald Trump, which Pinkas viewed as reflecting Israeli dissatisfaction. He described the situation as a major political setback for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Pinkas also cited the failure of military operations against Iran to produce expected results as another negative factor for Netanyahu’s government.

Under the proposed agreement, Israel was expected to redeploy troops in the buffer zone, allow unobstructed humanitarian aid into Gaza, and halt military attacks after Hamas accepted certain conditions. Pinkas said these commitments had not been seen in practice after the announcement last Friday. He added that presenting Gaza’s situation positively to the public was important for Netanyahu ahead of national elections scheduled for October.
