U.S. Tariff on Bangladesh Reduced to 20%: Positive for Exports, Requires Resilient Trade Strategy — Selim Raihan
The recent reduction of the retaliatory tariff rate imposed by the United States on Bangladesh from 35% to 20% is seen as a positive step for the export sector, says Selim Raihan, Executive Director of the private research institute South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM). He stated, “This adjustment in the tariff rate is part of a broader restructuring of the U.S. retaliatory tariff framework, which appears to apply to many of the country’s trading partners. However, Bangladesh must now take effective measures to establish a diversified, competitive, and resilient trade strategy.”
