Leaders and activists of the Shalla Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliated organizations held a protest march and rally on Tuesday afternoon in Shalla, Sunamganj. The demonstration began at 2 p.m. from the BNP’s local office on College Road and moved through several streets before concluding with a protest meeting at the old upazila parishad premises. The event was organized under the directive of the central BNP and led by senior joint convener Abdul Awal.
Speakers at the rally accused the banned Awami League of engaging in repression and abduction politics, claiming that the people had rejected the party. They urged BNP members to focus on the welfare of the people rather than personal gain and to resist any form of anarchy or infiltration within the party. The speakers also emphasized the need to remember years of political persecution and continue working for the country and its citizens.
According to the speakers, the BNP government assumed power with a heavy debt burden but has already distributed family and agriculture cards to beneficiaries as part of its welfare initiatives announced by Tarique Rahman.
