Islami Chhatra Shibir has called for visible administrative steps to hand over Jagannath University’s second-campus development work, valued at hundreds of crores of taka, to the army. The organisation made the demand at a protest march in the capital on Tuesday and later at a press conference at its central office in Purana Paltan. It also demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of those it accused of attacks at Jagannath University, Dhaka College and Dhaka Alia Madrasa.
According to Shibir, students carrying placards on housing shortages and army oversight of the second-campus project were blocked during Jagannath University’s July Mass Uprising Day-2026 event. It alleged that student representatives, journalists and students were attacked. The group said JAKSU Vice President Md Riazul Islam, General Secretary Abdul Alim Arif, Assistant General Secretary Masud Rana, journalists and at least 50 students were seriously injured.
The organisation presented five demands, including arrests using CCTV footage and photographs, accountability for proctorial office officials, and coverage of treatment costs for injured people. It also sought restoration of Dhaka Alia Madrasa hall control to general students and residential security. Shibir announced a mass gathering from the Central Shaheed Minar to Raju Sculpture at 9am on Thursday, where it said further programmes would be announced.
