Heavy rainfall upstream and flash floods have caused water levels in the Jamuna River and other internal rivers, including Baral, Hurasagar, Fuljor, Kartoa, and Ichamoti, to rise in Sirajganj. Low-lying riverine areas and wetlands are inundated, putting winter vegetable crops at risk. Over the past six days, water levels have increased significantly but remain below danger levels. Authorities have assured there is no immediate flood risk, though water levels may continue rising for the next few days.

Water Levels Continue to Rise in Jamuna, Low-Lying Areas Flooded in Sirajganj

Due to heavy rainfall upstream and flash floods from the hills, water levels in the Jamuna River have been rising in Sirajganj for several days. Along with the Jamuna, water levels are also increasing in internal rivers such as the Baral, Hurasagar, Fuljor, Kartoa, and Ichamoti. As the water rises, low-lying riverine areas and wetlands have been inundated. Farmers are worried about their winter vegetable crops. However, the Sirajganj Water Development Board (WDB) authorities have stated that there is no risk of flooding.
