Hefazat-e-Islam central committee Nayeb-e-Amir Principal Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury said cases filed against the group’s scholars and activists during the Awami League government remain in force, while cases against BNP leaders and activists have been withdrawn. He made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon at a Shane Resalat conference organised by Hefazat-e-Islam’s Katiadi upazila unit at Katiadi Government Pilot High School field in Kishoreganj.

Chowdhury said BNP and Hefazat members faced cases over political and movement-related incidents during the same period. He called for the swift withdrawal of the cases against Hefazat’s ulema. Discussing education, he said religious scholars had protested several initiatives in the education system under the Awami League government, forcing the government to halt some measures.

He also criticised the inclusion of dance, music and other subjects in the current education system and questioned whether there was partisan conduct. Chowdhury said unrestricted use of multimedia mobile phones was pushing young people toward destruction and urged government attention. Speakers at the conference discussed the life, ideals and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), emphasising Islamic values, religious education and Muslim unity.
