German human rights activist Anna Liedke, aged 25, has filed a formal criminal complaint alleging that she was stripped and raped three times while detained in an Israeli prison. Liedke was arrested last autumn after joining the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy from Europe bound for Gaza, which was intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters. She was held for five days before being released.

According to the complaint, the assaults occurred at Givon Prison, where female guards allegedly forced Liedke to undress and assaulted her while male guards watched. Liedke told The Guardian that the violence aimed to intimidate activists showing solidarity with Palestinians. Her lawyer, Muna Haddad, said the case challenges a culture of abuse against detainees in Israel, claiming that sexual violence has been systematically used against Palestinian prisoners for years.

The incident has drawn global condemnation. The United Nations blacklisted Israel in May for conflict-related sexual violence, and authorities in Australia and France have launched investigations into alleged abuse of their citizens in Israeli prisons. Israeli military and prison officials have denied all allegations, calling them baseless.
