Crackdown on Illegal Rice Hoarding in 44 Districts: Nationwide Operation to Curb Price Manipulation

To stabilize the rice market and ensure smooth supply, the government of Bangladesh has launched a nationwide crackdown against illegal stockpiling and market manipulation. The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has already fined over 100 businesses a total of more than 1 million taka for hoarding rice and manipulating prices. Additionally, the agency is taking steps to stop the marketing of "Miniket" rice, a variety that officially does not exist in the country’s rice classification.
