Bangladesh Has the Lowest Salary for Primary School Teachers in South Asia

The foundation of a child’s education is laid in primary school. However, those who build that foundation—primary school teachers—are still considered third-class employees! A driver with only an 8th-grade education holds a 12th-grade position, while a primary school assistant teacher with a graduate or master’s degree holds a 13th-grade position. According to this grading system, their base salary is 11,000 BDT, and with allowances such as housing and medical benefits, they receive a total of around 19,500 BDT.
