Deadline Extended for Counter-Tariff Enforcement: Concerns and Uncertainty over a US-Bangladesh Trade Deal New Counter-Tariffs Threaten Bangladesh's Export Sector

On April 2, former US President Donald Trump imposed high reciprocal tariffs on several countries, including Bangladesh. Later, he announced a three-month suspension of these tariffs. That grace period ends today, Wednesday. During this time, the US initiated negotiations with various countries and sent a draft trade agreement on counter-tariffs to Bangladesh. Bangladesh has already responded with its written opinions on the draft, and one round of discussions has been held. A second meeting is scheduled for today. If both sides reach an agreement, the deal could be finalized quickly. However, many issues related to the agreement remain unaddressed.
