The Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord Implementation and Monitoring Committee emphasized that several core conditions of the peace accord remain unfulfilled, hindering lasting peace in the region. This was the committee’s first meeting under the current administration, with more scheduled soon.

Full peace in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) remains elusive because several fundamental provisions of the accord have yet to be implemented, members of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord Implementation & Monitoring Committee observed at a meeting yesterday. They stressed the need to prioritize execution of the accord’s core elements and resolution of land disputes while setting the committee’s forward workplan.
