New California fire spurs evacuations as residents endure dangerous winds

Evacuation orders have been issued for more residents as a large, fast-moving wildfire spreads north of Los Angeles. Dry southern California is once again facing dangerous winds ahead of possible rain this weekend. The Hughes Fire ignited on Wednesday morning, rapidly burning through 9,400 acres (3,760 hectares). It has created a massive plume of dark smoke near Castaic Lake, located about 40 miles (64 km) from the Eaton and Palisades wildfires, which have been burning for the third consecutive week.
