An audit at Jahangirnagar University’s medical center uncovered the disappearance of approximately 19,567 pieces of medicine within 21 days, allegedly involving officials. The Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) demanded a fair investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible. The issue surfaced on July 21, 2026, after JAKSU members shared information on social media. The audit found major discrepancies between the stock register and actual inventory, including the complete absence of several medicines such as Alatrol, Tiemonium, Famotidine, and Napron.
According to the medicine purchase committee, the missing medicines were worth about 73,101 taka. Committee members, including Professor Md. Salekul Islam and Assistant Comptroller Md. Fakhrul Islam, conducted the inspection under the directive of Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Muhammad Nazrul Islam. Officials acknowledged irregularities but differed on who controlled the store keys and distribution. The deputy registrar admitted the shortage but claimed ignorance about how it occurred.
The committee chairman announced that an emergency meeting would be held to decide on disciplinary measures in accordance with university regulations.
