Tahsina Rushdir Luna, former central organizing secretary of the BNP and wife of missing leader M Ilias Ali, has been unofficially declared the winner in the Sylhet-2 (Bishwanath–Osmaninagar) constituency. Contesting under the BNP’s paddy sheaf symbol, she secured 116,697 votes, defeating Muhammad Muntasir Ali of Khelafat Majlish, who received 37,446 votes. The vote margin stood at 79,251, according to results from all 128 polling centers.
The constituency has a total of 368,932 registered voters, including 188,679 men and 180,253 women. Voting took place peacefully, and this marks the first time since Bangladesh’s independence that a woman has been elected from Sylhet-2. Her victory has sparked widespread enthusiasm among party activists and general voters.
The result is seen as a historic milestone for the constituency, highlighting both voter engagement and the growing representation of women in regional politics.
