৳2 Trillion Spent on LNG Imports in 7 Years, While Only ৳80 Billion Invested in Gas Exploration Over Two Decades
Due to a domestic gas shortage, the then-Awami League government began importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2018. Over the past seven fiscal years, the country has spent over ৳2.05 trillion on LNG imports. However, this imported LNG accounts for only 20–25% of the total gas supply. In stark contrast, the government has invested just around ৳80 billion in gas exploration over the last two decades.
