On Sunday afternoon, BNP submitted its official stance in writing to the National Consensus Commission. The party objected to the commission’s proposal, which equated the events of 1971 with those of 2024, calling it inappropriate.
BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the party supports reverting to the pre-15th amendment constitutional framework. He also emphasized that determining electoral boundaries is the sole constitutional authority of the Election Commission. Opposing the idea of making the EC accountable to a parliamentary committee, he added, “If the National ID system is handed over to a separate entity, the Election Commission will repeatedly have to depend on other institutions.”
