BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has alleged that party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s current illness is not natural, claiming she was subjected to 'slow poisoning' during her imprisonment. Speaking at the Ruposhi Bangla Photography Exhibition and Competition 2025 award ceremony in Dhaka, Abbas said he had always been cautious about prison officials. He recounted a conversation with an Indian journalist who told him that Khaleda Zia’s deteriorating health had been 'designed' to ensure her gradual death, though she remains alive by divine mercy. Abbas visited Khaleda Zia on Friday night and reported that her condition had slightly improved. He urged prayers for her recovery and accused foreign actors of conspiring against Bangladesh’s sovereignty, alleging they once controlled the country and now influence its political process. Abbas insisted that national elections will be held in February despite external pressure.
