Two BNP leaders in Ramganj, Lakshmipur, have been permanently expelled over allegations that they took bribes while promising to secure government allowances for an imam, muezzin and khadem. The expelled leaders are Md Harunur Rashid, president of Ward No. 1 BNP in Darbeshpur Union, and general secretary Md Yusuf Hossain. The report was published and updated on August 9, 2026.

According to party sources, the two leaders allegedly collected Tk5,000 each, or Tk15,000 in total, from the imam, muezzin and khadem of Uttar Darbeshpur Hajibari Jame Mosque. They reportedly said the money was connected to obtaining government allowances for the three mosque staff members. An investigation was launched after the allegation was received, and the accusation was found to be true, the report said.

Darbeshpur Union BNP president Khorshed Alam said he and the committee's organisational secretary investigated the matter and found evidence supporting the allegation. He said the two leaders had taken Tk5,000 from each of the three people linked to the mosque in their ward. Organisational action was taken after discussions with upazila-level leaders, he added.
