A Sirajganj court has sentenced six individuals to life imprisonment in a drug trafficking case. The verdict was delivered on Monday by Judge Nazrul Islam of the Sirajganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3. Each convict was also fined 100,000 taka, with an additional one-year imprisonment in default of payment. Among the convicts, three were present during the verdict, while the remaining three are absconding.
According to the case documents, on July 15, 2012, police from Jamuna Bridge West Police Station intercepted a private car based on a tip-off and seized 150 bottles of Indian phensedyl. Three suspects were arrested on the spot, who later revealed the involvement of three others. Following investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against six individuals on December 31, 2012. After a lengthy trial and witness examination, the court delivered its judgment on Monday.
The ruling concludes a case that had been ongoing for nearly 14 years, marking a significant outcome in the region’s anti-drug enforcement efforts.
