Amid rising political tension in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reportedly decided to step down after a meeting with security forces. On August 5, she personally called Delhi requesting temporary entry into India, which was promptly approved. A second call followed from the Bangladesh Air Force seeking clearance for her military aircraft to land at a specific Indian airbase — a request also granted immediately. Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar later confirmed the calls in Parliament, though did not specify whom Hasina had spoken to.

Hasina Sought Delhi's Assurance Before Departure

After 12 PM on August 5, two consecutive phone calls were made from Dhaka to Delhi — a fact later confirmed by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar himself in Parliament. The first call came from the office of Sheikh Hasina, with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh speaking directly. While Jaishankar did not reveal who exactly she spoke to, diplomatic protocol suggests such conversations usually take place directly between the two Prime Ministers.
