Bangladesh’s merchandise export earnings rose 13.14 percent year-on-year to $4.43 billion in August, driven by growth in ready-made garments and several other sectors. The Export Promotion Bureau released the updated figures on Tuesday. In the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27, July and August, exports increased 5.43 percent to $9.16 billion, compared with $8.69 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Ready-made garment exports, the principal driver of August growth, climbed 13.92 percent to $3.89 billion. Knitwear exports rose 14.88 percent and woven garments increased 12.70 percent during the month. In July-August, garment exports grew 5.12 percent to $7.50 billion, with knitwear up 6.17 percent and woven apparel up 3.81 percent.

Exports also expanded in jute and jute goods, pharmaceuticals, leather and leather products, printed materials, engineering goods and other footwear. August exports to the United States rose 26.09 percent, while Turkey, South Korea and Saudi Arabia recorded strong growth. The EPB attributed the increase to stronger demand, greater buyer confidence, expanded production capacity, higher-value products, and efforts to diversify products and markets.
