Losses Exceed 15 Million Daily: Strike at Madhyapara Hard Rock Quarry Due to Worker Unrest, Stone Extraction Halted
In Parbatipur, Dinajpur, the country’s only productive stone quarry—Madhyapara Hard Rock Quarry—has indefinitely suspended stone extraction due to worker unrest. When workers launched a strike from 7 a.m. on Wednesday demanding payment of profit bonuses and reinstatement of four dismissed worker leaders, the situation intensified. Yesterday morning, the quarry operating company, Madhyapara Granite Mining Company Limited (MGMCL), announced that to avoid unrest and any unpleasant incidents, stone extraction activities would be suspended from 10 a.m. onwards. Both quarry authorities and worker leaders have confirmed the situation.
