Centre is stripping citizenship — I will fight to the last drop of blood, says Mamata
Panic over citizenship is spreading again in West Bengal. The central government's-ordered “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) of the voter lists has generated intense fear and anger across the state. A tragic outcome of that fear: 95‑year‑old Khitish Majumdar hanged himself in Ilambazar in Birbhum district. Born in Barisal, Bangladesh, Majumdar had come to India four decades ago. In his final days the fear of losing his citizenship haunted him. He feared—because his name did not appear on the 2002 voter list—that this time he might be declared an “illegal citizen.” It was that fear that prompted him to end his life.
