A 27-year-old man, Badsha, was allegedly beaten to death in Khetlal, Joypurhat, after being suspected of theft or illegal entry at Jamalganj Filling Station. Another young man, 19-year-old Majedul Islam, was seriously injured and sent to hospital. Police detained the filling station manager, Azimul Haque, and employee Saiful Islam Sajib over alleged involvement in the incident.

Police and local sources said Badsha and Majedul were detained around 9:30pm on Friday, 14 August, then taken to a poultry farm where they were allegedly beaten and tortured through the night. After becoming seriously ill, they were allegedly left beside a road in Mahabbatpur Padmapukur with their hands and feet tied. Fishermen found them early Saturday and alerted police; Badsha was found dead.

Majedul said they repeatedly denied the theft allegation but were pressured to confess and tortured before he lost consciousness. Additional Superintendent of Police Arif Hossain said the detainees were being questioned and investigators were examining whether others were involved. Badsha’s family was preparing to file a case, while local residents demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible.
