Lychee Season Creates 150,000 Jobs in Dinajpur
During the peak lychee season, nearly 150,000 women and adolescents find employment in Dinajpur. They work in lychee orchards for about one and a half months. From mid-May to the first week of July, lychees are harvested and sold. In rural areas of Sadar, Biral, and other upazilas, workers pick lychees from trees, count them, and pack them into baskets or crates. This seasonal activity generates employment for thousands in the region known as the “Lychee Kingdom.”
