Rajshahi University is set to hold its Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) elections on September 15, the first in 35 years. Political, cultural, and social groups are forming panels, with 6–7 expected to contest. Former anti-discrimination leaders, Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, leftists, journalists, and independents are in the mix. Chhatra Dal demands a delay, citing fairness concerns. The Election Commission insists the date is fixed and preparations are underway. Key deadlines for voter lists, nominations, and campaigning are set ahead of the polls.

Campus Buzzing with Panel Preparations, Chhatra Dal Requests More Time

After 35 years, the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), hall union, and senate student representative elections are set to be held on 15 September, as announced by the RUCSU Election Commission. Political, cultural, and social groups have already started forming panels. Discussions are also ongoing about separate panels from former coordinators of the Rajshahi University Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Islami Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Adhikar Parishad, leftist student groups, Islami Chhatri Sangstha, general students, and journalists. However, the local unit of Chhatra Dal has demanded more time for the election, saying they will participate only after “fascist teachers” are brought to justice.
