The Bangladesh government has introduced a new passport system, abolishing the police verification process. Under the updated rules, passports will be issued based on online-verified National ID (NID) data for adults and online-verified birth registration details for minors and expatriates. For passport reissuance, if there are changes to essential information, the data from the National ID will be used. This change, announced by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, aims to simplify the process and ensure quicker passport delivery without delays caused by police verification.

Police Verification Process for Passports Abolished: Here’s the New Procedure

The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Security Services Division has issued a notification abolishing the police verification process for passport applications in Bangladesh. The information was announced in a circular signed by Additional Secretary Kazi Golam Tousif of the Security Services Division on Tuesday. According to the circular, applicants for new passports will now receive their passports without police verification, based on the information from their online-verified National Identity Card (NID). For Bangladeshi citizens residing abroad and minors applying for a new passport, police verification will also not be required. Instead, their passports will be issued based on online-verified birth registration information.
