Guwabari Government Primary School in Gaibandha’s Saghata Upazila has faced severe erosion from the Jamuna River, forcing it to move 16 times over the last four decades. The nearly 80-year-old school, located on a remote char, now faces another threat as riverbanks erode again. Around 150 students’ education is at risk as classrooms and materials are being relocated. Authorities and the community are working to find a permanent solution to secure the school’s future.

Jamuna River Erosion Forces a School to Relocate 16 Times

Guwabari Government Primary School in Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha has been severely affected by the erosion of the Jamuna River. Over the past four decades, the school has had to change its location 16 times. Now, once again, it is under threat from river erosion, causing great concern among students and teachers.
