In Gopalganj, all three parliamentary constituencies have been unofficially won by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidates, marking the party’s first major victory in the Awami League-dominated district since independence. The unofficial results were announced by District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md. Arif-uz-Zaman. In Gopalganj-1, Selimuzzaman Molya received 68,867 votes, defeating Ganadhikar Parishad’s Md. Kabir Mia, who secured 53,961 votes. In Gopalganj-2, K.M. Babor won with 40,048 votes, while BNP’s rebel candidate M.H. Khan Monju got 33,039 votes. In Gopalganj-3, S.M. Jilani received 60,166 votes, surpassing Gobinda Chandra Pramanik with 33,867 votes.

Before the announcement, K.M. Babor led a victory procession to the district returning officer’s office, where he pledged to fulfill his campaign promises and pursue greater development through the BNP leadership. He also called for cooperation to maintain peace and security in Gopalganj and thanked voters for their support.

This marks the first time since the 1996 election that BNP has achieved such a sweeping result in Gopalganj, historically known as an Awami League stronghold.
