Following the Supreme Court’s acquittal of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam, Shibir leader Sadiq Kayem wrote on Facebook that the Chief Justice himself described the prior verdict as a “gross miscarriage of justice.” He explained that such a term refers to a serious error in legal proceedings that violates a defendant's rights and undermines the very purpose of justice, often leading to the punishment of innocent individuals while real perpetrators go free. He further claimed that the war crimes tribunal was a political conspiracy by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and urged for a legal review of all past verdicts to formally acknowledge what he described as judicial oppression.
