Families of victims from Bangladesh’s 2024 uprising have demanded that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina be brought back from India to face execution if convicted by the International Crimes Tribunal. The tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, is set to deliver its first verdict in the case involving alleged crimes against humanity during the July uprising that led to Hasina’s ouster. Prosecutors have sought the death penalty for the 78-year-old former leader on five counts, including incitement to murder and superior command responsibility. Hasina, who has been in India since losing power on August 5, 2024, is considered a fugitive and did not participate in the trial. Victims’ relatives, including those of slain protesters, expressed frustration over delays and called for swift justice. Hasina has denied all charges in international media interviews, calling the case politically motivated. The tribunal proceedings have drawn intense public attention and emotional appeals from families seeking closure.
