A court in Habiganj granted interim bail to 11 accused, including district Chhatra Dal president Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon, in a case over an attack on a convoy carrying central leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP). The accused surrendered and sought bail at the Habiganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on the afternoon of Sunday, August 2.
Following a hearing, the court approved interim bail until the case medical certificate is submitted to the court. State counsel Advocate Nurul Islam confirmed the development.
The alleged attack occurred on July 28 as NCP central leaders were travelling toward the Circuit House after a party march in the Town Hall area of Habiganj town. NCP northern region chief organiser Sarjis Alam, chief coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwary and several party activists were reported injured, while several media workers were also alleged to have been hurt. Habiganj district Jubo Shakti convener Tanmoy Taher Jewel filed a written complaint on July 29, and police registered the case on July 30 after reviewing it.
