Farhad Hossain, a second-year history student at Chittagong University, was killed after being shot in the head during the anti-discrimination student movement in Magura on August 4. A resident of Raynagar village in Sreepur upazila, he joined the protest with five to seven college friends in an easy-bike. Gunfire began against protesters near Parnanduali Bridge on the Dhaka-Magura highway. He was declared dead by doctors after being taken to hospital and was buried that night at Raynagar cemetery.

His elder brother Golam Kibria said Farhad had discussed the country’s situation with family members that morning and said, “Let’s go brother, let’s become martyrs. We will not get such a time in life again.” After being hit, Farhad asked people nearby to deliver his phone and body to his mother, according to the report. His mother had called him to return home before the incident, Kibria said.

A murder case was filed at Magura Sadar police station on August 21, 2024, naming 69 people, including two former members of parliament. No charge sheet has been filed nearly two years later. Police said the investigation remains ongoing to identify actual suspects and avoid harassment of innocent people, while the family seeks swift and fair justice.
