The results of Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary election, held on February 12, were officially published in a government gazette on Saturday, February 14, 2026. A large number of candidates lost their election deposits after failing to secure the required percentage of votes. According to the report, a candidate forfeits their deposit if they receive less than 12.5 percent of the total votes cast in their constituency.

The report explains that the deposit is a fixed amount of money submitted to the returning officer as an election security measure. For parliamentary seats, the deposit is 25,000 taka, while for upazila and municipal elections, the amount varies depending on the number of voters. Deposits for union council and municipal councilor positions are lower, ranging from 1,000 to 30,000 taka.

After the election, the Election Commission prepares a list of candidates whose deposits are forfeited, and the funds are transferred to the government treasury through the Accountant General’s Office. Candidates who retain their deposits can reclaim the money after the gazette publication by applying within 90 days.
