A Dhaka court has postponed the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi for the 128th time. On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman fixed August 27 as the new date after the investigating officer, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Azizul Haque of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), failed to submit the report.

The case involves eight accused, including two security guards and a friend of the couple. Two of them are on bail, while the rest remain in custody. The murder took place on February 11, 2012, and the case was initially filed by Runi’s brother. Over the years, the investigation has been transferred among several agencies, including the Detective Branch, Rapid Action Battalion, and now the PBI.

In September of the previous year, the High Court ordered the formation of a high-powered task force to complete the investigation within six months, removing RAB from the case. The Home Ministry later issued a notification forming the task force, led by the PBI chief.
