Unofficial results from the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum show that Professor Nazrul Islam Mandal, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate with the paddy sheaf symbol, has won the Rajshahi-5 (Puthia–Durgapur) constituency by a wide margin. Voting took place on Thursday, February 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., followed by counting in the evening. Results from 130 of 132 centers confirmed Mandal’s lead and eventual victory.

According to the unofficial count, Mandal received 152,835 votes, while his nearest rival, Maulana Manzur Rahman of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the scale symbol, secured 72,512 votes, giving Mandal a winning margin of 80,323 votes. Other candidates received significantly fewer votes, including Isfa Khairul Haque Shimul (2,474), Barrister Rezaul Karim (6,385), Altaf Hossain Molla (929), Ruhul Amin (610), and Raihan Kawsar (438).

In the accompanying referendum, 133,896 votes were cast for “Yes” and 78,595 for “No.” The constituency had 353,177 registered voters, with a turnout of approximately 67.29 percent.
