Jahangirnagar University has temporarily expelled eight second-year students from the Department of Physics following allegations of ragging against first-year students. The decision was announced on Tuesday through an official order signed by Acting Registrar Dr. A. B. M. Azizur Rahman. According to the order, the incident occurred between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Monday night near the western side of Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Haque Hall, where the accused allegedly subjected new students to physical and mental abuse and inappropriate behavior.

The university administration stated that such actions constitute ragging under the 2018 Student Discipline Ordinance, prompting the temporary expulsion of the accused. The expelled students are all from the 54th batch of the Physics Department and belong to various residential halls. The order reiterated that any form of teasing, ragging, or harassment within the campus is strictly prohibited.

Acting Registrar Azizur Rahman said the decision followed preliminary verification of the allegations, and further investigation and necessary actions will be taken according to university regulations.
