Vandals set fire to the July Memorial in Netrokona town, according to a report published on June 10, 2026. A 25-second video circulating on social media shows three young men descending from the base of the monument near the Mogra River bridge in Moktarpara area at night, while slogans of 'Sheikh Hasina' and 'Joy Bangla' are heard. Burn marks were visible on the monument the following morning.
Officer-in-Charge Md. Al Mamun Sarkar of Netrokona Model Police Station said that Superintendent of Police Tarikul Islam and other senior officials visited the site in the morning. He confirmed that kerosene was used to ignite the fire, but the steel structure of the monument prevented any significant damage. Authorities have begun an investigation into the incident.
The police have not yet identified the individuals involved, and the motive behind the act remains under investigation.
