A BNP leader was assaulted and forcibly taken to a police station in Narayanganj’s Signboard area by a rival faction within the party. The attack was linked to an extortion dispute in the transport sector. Former JCD leader Abdur Rahman, who had previously filed a case against ex-BNP leader Mamun and his associates, was angered by the police’s failure to arrest Mamun. Upon learning Mamun was at the station, Rahman and his supporters rushed there, captured him as he tried to flee, and continued beating him inside the officer-in-charge’s room. Allegedly, Mamun controlled extortion activities in the area.
