Formal charges have been filed at Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal against Sheikh Hasina and 40 others in a crimes-against-humanity case over killings linked to a Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel, Dhaka. Prosecutor Zahirul Amin submitted the charges to the tribunal registrar at about 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026. The case is due to be heard by a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder.

The 41 accused include former ministers, political figures, former law-enforcement officials, military officers, journalists and others. Ten people are currently arrested in the case, including former minister Dipu Moni, former state minister for home affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, Hasanul Haq Inu, retired Major General Ziaul Ahsan, former inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Haque, Shahriar Kabir, Farzana Rupa and Mozammel Babu.

According to the prosecution, 58 people were killed at four locations, including Dhaka, during events surrounding the Hefazat rally on May 5, 2013. The investigation agency identified 32 victims in Dhaka, 20 in Narayanganj, five in Chattogram and one in Cumilla.
