A case has been requested against Cumilla North District BNP joint convener Abul Hashem for allegedly seizing government land allocated to a landless person and constructing a multi-storey building on it. Daudkandi Upazila Executive Officer Nasrin Akter confirmed on Monday that an application was submitted to the Cumilla Deputy Commissioner to file the case. The move followed a report published on June 3 in the daily Amar Desh that sparked widespread discussion and prompted administrative action.

According to the report, the land was originally allotted to Masud Alam, a landless resident of Gauripur Pennai area, during the 1989–90 fiscal year for rehabilitation and agricultural use. However, Hashem, who is Alam’s cousin, allegedly took control of the land, later registering ownership under his own name. Local sources said Hashem had occupied the land for 36 years and recently began constructing a permanent multi-storey building there.

Officials stated that Hashem fraudulently included the land in his BS record and started illegal construction. The administration has now moved to initiate legal proceedings against him.
