A case has been filed against Satkhira-4 Member of Parliament and expelled Jamaat leader Gazi Nazrul Islam along with four others on charges of assaulting and attempting to strangle his personal driver to death. The case was lodged at Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka, and police have already arrested one accused. On Wednesday, July 22, the arrested suspect, Aminur Rahman, was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin’s court, which ordered his detention in jail.

According to the case statement filed by Obaidur Rahman, the victim and complainant, he worked as Nazrul’s personal driver and lived in his sister’s apartment in Pallabi’s Kalshi area. Obaidur alleged that Nazrul developed an unethical relationship with his niece, and after he objected, Nazrul threatened to kill him. Later, on July 14, Nazrul allegedly ordered others to attack him, leading to a violent assault where he was beaten and nearly strangled. Obaidur’s mother and sister intervened, and he was later treated at Kurmitola Hospital.

The court has directed the investigation officer to submit a report by August 28. Obaidur claims he remains in hiding due to ongoing death threats.
