A businessman’s residence in Puthia, Rajshahi, was reportedly vandalized, looted, and set on fire allegedly under the leadership of a local BNP leader. According to the victim, the attack stemmed from his refusal to pay a Tk 500,000 extortion demand. The businessman has filed a written complaint with the police, alleging that Rafiqul Islam, Vice President of the Baneshwar Union BNP, had been repeatedly pressuring him for the money since early August. Following his continued refusal, the attack was allegedly carried out by Rafiqul and his associates.
