A Dhaka court sentenced private driver Hridoy Bepari, also known as Md Hridoy Mia, to death for the killing of homeowner Afroza Sultana in Middle Badda. Dhaka Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Moin Uddin Chowdhury delivered the verdict on the morning of Wednesday, July 29. Sultana was found brutally killed with her throat cut at her second-floor flat in a multistorey building in Middle Badda on March 13, 2022.

Additional Public Prosecutor Md Zahidul Islam (Kaiyum) said the court convicted Hridoy under Section 302 of the Penal Code, 1860. He cited the motive, the accused's exclusive presence in CCTV footage, physical evidence, recovery of looted items and the continuity of forensic evidence. He said the victim's family and the prosecution were satisfied with the ruling.

In its observations, the court described the crime as among the rarest of rare, saying a trusted employee exploited that trust to kill an innocent woman in a brutal and calculated manner. The victim's brother filed the murder case the following day. The trial concluded within 30 working days after charges were framed, with testimony and cross-examination of 12 witnesses. The defence said it would appeal to the High Court.
