Bangladesh’s Law Minister Md. Anisul Huq informed parliament that as of March 31, 2026, a total of 4,639,476 cases remain pending across the country’s courts. Of these, 1,813,263 are civil cases and 2,826,213 are criminal. In the past year, 63,309 cases were resolved in the higher courts and 275,084 in subordinate courts. The minister provided these figures in response to a parliamentary question from MP Golam Rasool.

According to the minister, the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division has 38,713 pending cases, while the High Court Division has 522,331. Subordinate courts are handling 4,078,432 cases, including 377,414 civil cases older than five years. The minister also noted that mandatory mediation programs in 20 districts have reduced new case filings by 62.08 percent, and this initiative will gradually expand nationwide.

The minister further stated that the Appellate Division currently has five judges including the Chief Justice, the High Court Division has 101 judges, and subordinate courts have 1,964 judges working against 2,620 sanctioned posts.
