Two people were killed and several others injured after a covered van lost control and rammed into a motorcycle, a pickup truck and other vehicles in front of Maghbazar Grand Shopping Complex under Ramna Model Police Station in Dhaka. The crash occurred on Sunday night, 9 August. The dead were identified as Riad Hossain, 22, and Jaman Ahmed, 42.

Both victims were from Madhurgati Fakirpara village in Narail Sadar upazila. Riad was the son of Liyakot Fakir, while Jaman was the son of Ilias Fakir. Local sources said the speeding covered van struck vehicles ahead of it with force, leaving several people seriously injured at the scene.

The injured were taken immediately to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors declared Riad and Jaman dead at about 12:30am while they were under treatment. A man identified as Ripon, 40, remains under treatment at the hospital and was reported to be in critical condition. Hospital police outpost in-charge Md Faruk confirmed the deaths and said the bodies were kept at the emergency department morgue for autopsies.
